Across the four main nikāyas of the Pali Canon there are over 6,962 suttas, although that total varies significantly depending on how the suttas in the Aṅguttara Nikāya and the Saṁyutta Nikāya are counted. Additionally, the Khuddaka Nikāya contains numerous suttas across 15 texts to further increase the total.

Aṅguttara Nikāya - 3,872 suttas **

Digha Nikāya - 34 suttas

Khuddaka Nikāya - 2,378 texts

Majjhima Nikāya - 152 suttas

Saṁyutta Nikāya - 2,904 suttas

** The Aṅguttara Nikāya total is based on Bhikkhu Bodhi's total. The text itself suggests there are 9,557 suttas although many of these are repeated, with variations, throughout the text.

Adding the suttas, stories, verses and poems from the Khuddaka Nikāya brings the total suttas, poems and stories to 9,340.
