Niddesa - Description / Explanation / Exposition / Commentary (on parts of the Sutta Nipāta)

A commentary on parts of the Sutta Nipāta, divided into two parts:

1. Mahā Niddesa - commentating on the Atthaka Vagga (Octet) chapter of the Sutta Nipāta

2. Cūla Niddesa - commentating on the Parayana Vagga (Way to the Far Shore) chapter and the Khaggavisana Sutta ("Rhinoceros Horn Discourse)," from the first chapter of the Sutta Nipāta

Attributed to the Venerable Sāriputta, these works contain much material on the Abhidhamma and constitute the earliest forms of commentaries, providing evidence of commentarial tradition many centuries before the Venerable Buddhaghosa appeared on the scene.
